omid publishing house

Omid Publishing House is based in Barcelona, inside the Afghan Women’s Sports Archive. At a time when Afghan women cannot publish inside Afghanistan and their existing books are being removed from universities, libraries, and destroyed by the Taliban regime, but outside of Afghanistan, they struggle to connect with publishers and agents, we decided to build opportunities for Afghan women storytellers to publish as a goal of the archive.

“The Afghan Women’s Sports Archive and Omid Publishing are the culmination of two decades of work with Afghan women. Every woman I met had a story connected to land, family, and culture. This project may be focused on preserving the history of a segment of the Afghan population from erasure, but at its heart, it is about Afghan women’s voice and celebrating their stories. Omid Publishing is just one more step in making sure their voices are heard.”

We are closed for submissions right now, but we will open for submissions in a few months. We will require a proposal in English or Dari. No manuscripts. We will be accepting fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and graphic novels. Proposals should include a summary, a sample chapter, chapter summaries, market analysis, and biography.

If you are unsure about how to write a book proposal, please feel free to contact us for guidance. We are here to help.

Please note: We are strictly, no AI.

No submissions using AI in writing, translation, artwork, or marketing will be accepted. Just like the archive itself, we proudly enforce and celebrate human-made storytelling and artwork as an act of resistance and hope. No AI is an investment in women, and in humanity. It is a deep commitment to humankind and to craft.
